Corrosion of distance piece on SOx scrubber discharge water line
Recently, ClassNK has received several reports for incidents that sea water leakage was detected from distance piece attached to hull on SOx scrubber discharge water line.
Until now, the leakages were detected at an early stage and did not cause heavy water ingress into E/R.
However, ClassNK has concerns that similar incidents would occur in the future for the other vessels as well and may cause more serious accidents such as a large amount of leakage and water ingress into E/R, thus providing this Technical Information.

Amendments to MARPOL Annex II (Cargo residues and tank washings of persistent floating products) enter into force on 1 January 2021.
These new amendments, adopted by IMO Resolution MEPC.315(74), have newly defined persistent floating products ("persistent floater(s)") and impose stricter prewash requirements.

Updated temporary guidance: Port State Control and the impact of COVID-19
Having previously advised that a period of grace for the delay of surveys, inspections and audits of up to three months would be accepted by Port State Control in the Tokyo MOU region, that guidance has changed to an “appropriate grace period for delaying periods for surveys, inspections and audits specific to COVID-19 given to ship by the flag State Administration and/or Recognised Organisation”.
