A recent review of the usability and applicability of ECDIS by the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch & the Danish Maritime Accident Investigation Board concluded that, from a user perspective, ECDIS does contribute to safe navigation.

However, the challenges that have accompanied its introduction remain problematic. This bulletin explores
practical ways to address these issues to improve navigation safety.
