U.S. Coast Guard Safety Alert 03-26: Immersion Suit Maintenance and Inspections

This news highlights the most frequent detainable and ISM-related deficiencies identified during PSC inspections of DNV-classed vessels in Q2 2025. It complements our recent news (15 July and 5 August) on the upcoming PSC Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Ballast Water Management to help operators prepare effectively.

The Paris and Tokyo MoUs’ joint Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Ballast Water Management (BWM) will run from 1 September to 30 November 2025. The CIC questionnaire is now published. This PSC news is a follow-up of our news published on 15 July 2025.

This year’s Port State Control Concentrated Inspection Campaign (PSC CIC), taking place from 1 September to 30 November 2025, will focus on ballast water management.

The Coast Guard was recently notified of several vessels whose mariners were unable to properly don their Viking PS2006 immersion suits. This issue was encountered across crew members of various sizes, all sizes of the PS2006 immersion suit (small, universal, and jumbo), and multiple manufacturing lots. Therefore, manufacturing date and/or body type alone should not be used to determine viability of these immersion suits.

IACS has decided to launch its own CIC to record results of testing of emergency power supply on individual ships
